Compare a DBA to a PhD: Applied vs. Theoretical

A DBA and a PhD, also called terminal degrees, are the highest post-graduate degrees you can earn. As a rule, the DBA is considered a professional doctorate and the PhD is an academic doctorate. Here are some commonly asked questions to help clarify the differences.

Those who choose to become a Doctor of Business Administration are typically working professionals with managerial experience who want to focus on applied research to solve real-world problems in business. Most PhD holders accept teaching positions as professors or researchers at universities after developing theoretical research.
