Why Marymount University?

When I made the decision to return to school and earn my doctorate, I looked at several institutions. What I really appreciated about Marymount and the program was not only the faculty and staff whom I met during the admissions process but also the coursework being offered as it was applicable to what I am doing in my career. Marymount made me feel like I was a unique student, not a number.

What do you hope to accomplish by earning an Ed.D. degree?

My hope and long-term career goal is to become a Vice President of Student Success. I have already accomplished my goal of becoming a dean, and now I want to see this journey come full circle.

Tell us a bit about your background.

I have been in higher education for almost twenty years. I started out as an admissions counselor and advanced through the ranks at various institutions, now becoming an associate dean of student support. My specialty, as some would say, is working with students in academic distress and helping them pivot and become successful and lead to graduation. I have also been an adjunct faculty at several universities in my area for ten years.

I am a native of Baltimore, Maryland, and have lived here my entire life. I live close to my family, and that is who I genuinely enjoy spending time with when I am not worrying about schoolwork and due dates. I am also a huge fan of music and attending live concerts.

What motivates you to complete an online program?

The flexibility of the program and the ability to meet fellow students from all over the country. I have truly made some great connections with those in my cohort.

What has been your favorite topic or moment?

The program is well thought out and structured so that working adults can easily fit it into their everyday lives. To give an example, I have a full-time job, teach part-time, have a family, and there is still time for school. One of my favorite moments thus far has been this spring 2024 semester. Everything is coming together, and I am preparing my Dissertation in Practice (DiP) proposal with the hopes of becoming a doctoral candidate. The finish line is near!

What is the biggest highlight of your experience?

The faculty and the friendships that have been established. I am a part of cohort 4, and I feel that we have been on a roller coaster together for the past few years. We support one another and encourage each other to keep pushing through and reaching our goal of graduation.

Thank you to the faculty, staff, and our LDFMs for lifting us up when we were down. Supporting us when we thought we would fall and always believing we could finish this degree even when we were too tired to care. Being at Marymount has been a wonderful experience and I am grateful for the time I have spent here and the knowledge I have gained.

"I liked the idea of writing my Dissertation in Practice (DiP) throughout the program and in smaller pieces rather than trying to fit it all into one or two semesters like I had to do with my master's degree."
